Exhibition “In memory of the St. Patrick’s Battalion”.

The show will be held on September 10th, 2010 at 12:30 hours in the exhibition hall of Casa de la Cultura Jaime Sabines located on Avenida Revolución 1747, San Ángel, Delegation Álvaro Obregon in México D. F.
The exhibition will consist of a series of photographs taken over a period of a year in the states of Coahuila, Veracruz, Mexico City and Clifden, Ireland. In addition there will be a live broadcast via Internet (http:// liveintermedia.azc.uam.mx or http://oweenafogarty.net) from the Plaza San Jacinto to different locations in Mexico, Ireland and the United States of America (please view the annexed program).

The series of photographs documents the journey of the St. Patrick’s Battalion, during the northamerican intervention/ invasion in our country “1846-48”,  who defected and joined the mexican army. They participated in the battle of Angostura (Coahuila), Cerro Gordo (Veracruz) and lastly in Churubusco (Mexico City), where they were defeated, and later court-martialed and sentenced to hang.

The intention of the mexico-northamerican photographer Oweena Fogarty is to pay tribute to a small group of irish, german and polish men through photographs whose iconography attempts to “make visible the invisible traumas” inflicted upon these landscapes. In addition, through historical and anthropological research the artist lets us begin to understand the complex psycho-social effects produced by this “fatal incident” using only images as arguments.
